Two Weeks In: Real Estate Update (Jan 2018)

WHO (did I talk to?)

I spoke with some of the investors within my real estate group, and we set up a date/time/location for our next meetup.

WHAT (did I do?)

For the month of January, I told myself that I would do 1.5 hours of research after work from Monday – Thursday.  At the moment, I’m taking a course to enhance my knowledge in a particular area of investing, and I’ve given myself through March 31st to complete it.  It’s comprised of four modules (one of which I completed in December), so I have the first three months of 2018 to complete the course.  So far, I am on track to complete my module for January.

I used Trello to break down the modules, as well as the potential cities/counties I want to research, and the books that I will be reading as the year progresses.

WHERE (did I do it?)

I typically do my real estate research at home, unless I’m meeting up with others in person.

WHEN (did I do it?)

After my workout.

WHY (am I doing it?)

There are many reasons as to why I am doing this.  For one, I strongly believe that one of the paths to building wealth is through real estate investing.  I’ve owned real estate for a few years now, but it’s not income-producing.  For 2018, my O.M.G. (One Major Goal) is to purchase an income-producing property.

Investing in general provides one with the ability to build the economy and close the wealth gap.  When you are a major player in this game, your power increases and your voice gets larger.  And with this increase in power and larger voice comes influence.  I mean it’s pretty hard to ignore someone that has a stake in any hotel you visit or any store you patron.  This nation is in need of some MAJOR change – some positive change.  How did we end up with this White House administration??  It still baffles me from time to time.  They got there somehow!  Power and influence can create some serious havoc.  But, in order to create change within the Black community, WE need to have a seat at the table.

I am a Black woman who deserves and will ensure that I have a seat at the table

People pay attention when you have a seat at the table

Policies change when you have a seat at the table

Imagine if all Black people did their part to ensure their seat at the table

Imagine the change that could take place.  Just ask Jay…

HOW (did I do?)

In terms of sticking with my 1.5 hours of daily research, I haven’t necessarily been on the ball with that. The 1.5 hours includes more than just going through the course.  It’s also my time to research potential investment cities, run numbers, read, etc.  I probably got in 30 minutes to an hour most weekdays.  Weekends is when I did the bulk of my work towards this.  But weekends are not enough.  I’m going to reflect on why my weekdays didn’t quite work out the way I planned, and adjust.  In addition to making it through half my course module, I was also able to create a list of states, and further break it down into cities.

Overall, I’m pleased with the progress I’ve made over the first two weeks of the year.  I’ve honestly surprised myself with the fitness portion, and I’m looking forward to keeping it going!  The GoalDrvn planner is helping me to stay on task as it provides little icons representing daily Morning and Evening routines.  I circle each one upon completion.  My goal is to ensure that I have these icons circled daily.  When I don’t circle them all, it makes me more conscious about what I can do differently for the following day.

Once again, don’t forget to let me know how your 2018 has been going so far?

What are you working on?
